In our view, the
way that people often buy motorcycle insurance in this country is
unwise.Very few UK consumers would buy a TV set based only on its
price: 'Give me the cheapest one you've got. It doesn't matter if it
receives only one channel or the picture's awful. I just want it to be
cheap'.
This approach is blinkered, arbitrary and quite obviously faulty, yet
this is precisely how many buy their motorcycle insurance cover. They
buy the cheapest cover that they can find, usually via a price
comparison site, without properly, if at all, checking over the policy
inclusions or exclusions before purchase. They may not even be awre of
the Excess. Thus, they don't really know whether or not they've done
the motorcycle insurance equivalent of buying a one channel TV that
hardly works.
The remedy is obvious, of course, but it needs to be considered, and it
very often isn't. That remedy involves being willing to do your
homework to see what your motorcycle insurance policy offers and to
then make an informed choice based on your objective needs and wishes
in relation to those policy features.
There's an aspect to this remedy that perhaps isn't obvious. That is
that very often to get the required level of policy details, you often
need to look at the motorcycle insurer's own website; so it's wise not
to overlook this need when it arises, as it often does.
Actually, this issue, which relates to the quality of the motorcycle
insurance policies that you are actively considering, logically,
results in the acceptance that if you are looking for more
comrehensive, that is, less basic motorcycle cover, going direct to
leading insurers and bypassing an automated quote-checking system can
work well. The anxiety that you will pay to much is largely unfounded.
Normal market forces in a competitive market place ensure that market
leaders when you compare like cover are competitively priced even if
you don't compare motorcycle insurance quotes
yourself to establish this fact.
In conclusion, then, we would say that where you are looking for
motorcycle insurance on a tight budget, then it is reasonable to use a
price comparison system but you should take the time to check over
exactly what you're buying. In most cases, however, we would advise
going direct to a leading motorcycle insurance provider to build in
better quality cover which is unlikely to be done at a cost outside a
competitive market rate for that type of policy.
