The online
services available for home owner insurance in this country fall into
two categories. These categories are price comparison, also known as
aggregator services, and direct home owner insurance
services. The latter are provided either from the insurers themselves
or via brokers.
Increasingly over the last few years since their introduction, use of a
price comparison sites has become the course of first choice for most
that seek home owner insurance at low cost. These services
have the appeal of usually saving people money while helping them to
also feel empowered by eyeballing lots of competing prices for their home
owner insurance. If you see for yourself how much you're saving each
time, it's not surprising that you want to go back for more.
However, price comparison sites are not without flaws. Their
concentration on price makes it difficult to know exactly what you're
getting in terms of the cover. Also, they're a challenge to use if you
want to compare policies further up the quality continuum than the most
budget policies clustered in the lowest price range.
Of course, when you buy a very cheap home owner insurance
policy, you should be aware before purchase of what your cover misses
out to reduce the premium. It doesn't take long to check the excess,
for example, which is likely to be higher for the cheaper quotes.
In contrast to some of our other insurance services (for instance,
motorbike insurance) where price comparison is phenomenally popular
almost to the exclusion of using our direct insurance listings at all,
many do like to use our direct home owner insurance
listings here to get cover. Indeed, M&S home insurance is
remarkably popular here (link below). It's not hard to see why. They
offer fabulous cover with a generous online discount. You can find out
more via the link.
Using our well-known direct home owner insurance providers
certainly offers quality control that is, in contrast, much more
difficult to achieve via an aggregator system given their emphasis on
the lower-priced quotes.
We would suggest that anyone wanting to get low cost home
owner insurance should not dismiss the direct route. The home insurance
providers all have to compete in a competitive market, they can't
afford to charge you too much as a result; so the idea that you will
loose out if you don't compare is actually a bit overplayed. In fact,
prices for like cover tend to cluster closely in price.
